The Iron Age Farm (Jernaldergården) at Ullandhaug is rebuilt on the original remains and ruins of a farm that dates back to the Migration Period, approx. 350 – 550 AD, and is the only one of its kind in Norway. The farm is a live open-air museum, where you can experience how everyday life was before the Viking Age.The Iron Age Farm at Ullandhaug is a a reconstructed farmstead from the Migration Periode (350-550 AD). The farm is located around three kilometres from the Stavanger city centre, with a magnificent view of the Northern Jæren region and Hafrsfjord. The farm is as the only farm of its kind in Norway, reconstructed on the original archaeological site. The three houses have equipment and domestic utensils, and there is a fire burning on the original fireplaces. On the Iron Age Farm, you are greeted by the mistress and and the people on the farm. You are welcome as a guest to the Iron Age farm. The fire is burning on the fireplace, and if you are lucky you get a taste of food cooked on the fireplace. It is a strange feeling to sit around the fireplace in the same manner as perhaps a family did 1500 years ago.

This is a living museum where they try and revive the ways of living in the iron age.The 20 min tour, turned into a 1.5hr fascinating lecture into the history and recovery of this site. The guide we had clearly had a great passion for both history and sharing it.Well worth the visit. Your ticket is also valid for 48hrs in the archeological museum in town. Perfect to combine a rainy and sunny day.
