Det var nydelig der. Vi tok en rast der før vi gikk ned munketrappene til Lofthus.

Hiked up to the start of the waterfall (mid October) on a sunny day with my fiancée (24 weeks pregnant!). We went from Lofthus all the way to the peak at 1000m and with the return to Lofthus included it took us 5 hours in total. Amazing hike, not too difficult and spectacular views. Totally recommend!

Stayed at Lofthus and decided to do this hike passing through the monk steps. It is a very rewarding hike but would say this is a little more than moderate. During the summer the paths are clear but even on a hot summers day there is still a section of ice which would need good hiking shoes with deep treads to pass through. Sliding on your backside also does the job but would not recommend this approach. The waterfall itself is a beautiful experience. Unlike the popular hikes with tour buses, this has much fewer people and you can very much enjoy in peace.

Very beautiful place. It's hidden in the forest, so there's like a 5-minute walk. Need comfy shoes to climb rocks if you want to come closer to water. There's a hanging bridge to go to the other side of the river. Not crowded so it was very chill. There's bench where you can sit and relax.

I don't know how many people visit Queen Sonja's trail, but on the day I was there it wasn't crowded, the path up the mountain leads through forest and you almost do not see any views until you reach the mountain top at 1000m, once at the top you'll hear quite powerful sound north of the path, the sound comes from Rjukandefoss waterfall which is one of the most amazing waterfalls that I've seen during my visit in Hardanger...
