Leirdal made the sculpture on assignment from Trondheim as a tribute to the literary works of Johan Falkberget, in this case his story about a woman in the demanding profession of driving ore from the mines in Røros with her ox. In 1971, the sculpture was moved from the park across from the movie theatre in Prinsens gate (a street) to its present location, close to Ila Church, which is close to the old location of the town gate at Skansen. Farmers from Røros would enter through this gate when coming to the town with their load of copper. An-Magritt symbolises the indomitable will and stamina of mankind.Text descriptions of art made before the year 2000 are taken from the book 'Skulpturguiden for Trondheim' by Anne Grønli and Grethe Britt Fredriksen. Text descriptions of art made after the year 2000 are written by Per Christiansen.
