Small but cosey museum highlighting the mineral-richness of the Evje-Iveland area. This area is world famous for a special type of rock, called pegmatite.The pegmatites in this area are in many cases very rich in beautiful and rare minerals.In the collection are many samples from the pegmatites. There are also displays with minerals from other places in Norway.Evje is also famous for the Flåt nickel mine, which was once Europe's largest. The mine opened in 1872, and was closed in 1946.There is a special display on Pierre and Md Curie, due to the fact that the museum is in possession of an electroscope developed by Pierre Curie.Due to the mineral-richness of this area, there are no less then 3 places dedicated to the minerals: the Evje og Hornnes geomuseum Fennefoss, the Mineralparken and the Iveland Kommunes Mineralsamling. In addition there are some places were tourists can collect against a fee.Part of the museum shows the local history: the Evje pharmacy, a school class, household items etc.The museum is located near the river Otra, and the view over the river is very nice.NOTEGoogle has the name wrong! The official name is Evje og Hornnes geomuseum Fennefoss. Mineral collectors usually just call it just Fennefoss museum.I tried to get Google to fix it, but they are not helpful at all.

A really nice museum showing different rooms like they were some hundreds years ago. On the second and third floor there is an amazing collection of minerals from the area , the rest of Norway and also some from around the world.

Stunning collection overall, absolutely worth checking out even if you're not a geology-nerd.Somewhat difficult to navigate to get to the place, but once on the correct road it is impossible to miss.
